Commissionors ask staff to work with Sunrise Pita on short‑term food truck plan amid plaza renovations
Summary
After a lengthy discussion about health, parking and inspection requirements, the Sunrise City Commission directed staff to work with Sunrise Pita and the plaza owner to develop a concrete plan for a temporary food truck while the restaurant is closed for renovations.
Deputy Mayor Neil Kirch and the Sunrise City Commission discussed a proposal May 13 to allow a temporary food truck to serve Sunrise Pita & Grill customers while the restaurant’s plaza undergoes renovations.
The discussion culminated in a request that restaurant owner Sherry Franco work with city staff to return with a detailed, code‑compliant plan. City Manager Mark Lebowski told the commission the plaza owner, identified in the meeting as Meyer Minion, supports a temporary food truck and that the businesses in the plaza closed May 8 for renovations. Lebowski said, “The renovations have already started. I believe the businesses were closed on May 8,” and that staff’s initial estimate was the work “should be done in around 90 days.”
