Commissioners ratify employee medical benefit plan amendments

The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners ratified employee medical benefit plan amendments on April 15 so the county's plan manager can receive and implement the paperwork.
County staff explained the amendments had already been approved and signed by earlier commissioners but were not transmitted to the company that manages the plan. Because some current commissioners were not in office when the amendments were first approved, the items needed ratification to provide authority for the current signatories and to allow the plan manager to finalize administrative changes.
Staff said the ratification does not change plan content: "This doesn't make any changes from what... itself and other commissioners approved couple years ago," a county presenter said. Commissioners voted to ratify the amendments; the motion carried with recorded affirmative votes.
The item was presented as a housekeeping matter; staff indicated the amendments would be sent to the plan manager for final approval and implementation.
