WMSC adopts $7.53 million budget for fiscal year 2026

The Washington Metrorail Safety Commission adopted its fiscal year 2026 work program and budget on May 13, approving $7,530,000 to fund the Commission’s oversight activities from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026.
Kyle (CFO) presented the budget to commissioners and said the "fiscal year 2026 work program and budget before you today totals 7,530,000." He said the largest share of the budget is for salaries and benefits. The finance and operations committee reviewed the final budget on May 7 and recommended its approval; the budget was developed under the WMSC funding agreement in coordination with Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
The Commission approved the resolution (R-2025-01) adopting the work program and budget by a 5–0 vote.
Why it matters: The approval secures WMSC staff and oversight activities for the coming fiscal year, supporting audits, corrective action monitoring, safety-certification oversight and investigations. Commissioners and staff described the adoption as the culmination of a months-long process that included review by jurisdictions and the Commission’s committee.
No amendments to the budget were proposed at the public meeting.
