Kosciusko County Council approved two budget items for the sheriff’s office: an appropriation to the insurance vehicle replacement account and authorization to purchase a transport vehicle from commissary funds.
The council approved an appropriation adjustment for $22,870.72 to cover an insurance payment related to a squad-car collision earlier this year; the motion to move the appropriation was seconded and passed by voice vote.
Separately, the sheriff informed the council that commissioners had approved the purchase of three vehicles at a separate meeting and asked the council’s permission to buy a 2025 Dodge Durango for transport duties out of the sheriff’s commissary account. The council approved the purchase; the presenter gave the total as $41,893 (the transcript shows the amount as $41,893.93 in one place and $41,008.93 earlier; the council motion approved the purchase amount identified during the discussion). Motion to approve that purchase was made and seconded and passed by voice vote.
Sheriff Smith noted the commissary purchase would not cost the county’s general fund because it would be paid from commissary funds. Council members acknowledged the purchase and passed the motions during the meeting.
