Sharyland ISD board declares three unopposed candidates elected, swears in two trustees; reorganization tabled

Hector Rivera and Dr. Oliveira took oaths of office administered by the Honorable Judge Singletary. After taking the oath, Hector Rivera said, “Just like to thank everybody for your continued trust and support, and we will continue working hard to move this district forward.” Dr. Oliveira said he was “truly, honestly humbled to be a part of this group.” David Keith was listed as the trustee for Place 7 but was absent from the special meeting.
Board members present for the special meeting were Maritza Venezia (president), Hector Rivera, Megan Sullivan, Julio Cerna, Dr. Noel Oliveira and Andrew Riddle; David Keith was listed as absent. The meeting record states the board found and declared the three named individuals to be trustees of Sharyland ISD “subject to their taking their oaths.”
On the agenda under item 6(c), board members discussed reorganization of board officers. Trustee Hector Rivera moved to table the reorganization until the next regular board meeting so David Keith could participate; the motion was seconded by Julio Cerna. The board voted in favor, 6-0, and the chair announced the motion passed. The board then recessed briefly for a workshop and did not complete officer reorganization at the special meeting.
No public comments were recorded at the meeting. The board noted the prior Feb. 24, 2025, action canceling the election and accepting certification of the unopposed candidates as the basis for declaring the candidates elected. The written order read at the meeting stated the declarations were effective immediately subject to each person taking the oath of office.
