Galena Park ISD honors students for state and national achievements

The Galena Park Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized students and staff for academic, artistic and career‑technical achievements during the May board meeting.
Trustee Noe Esparza assisted with recognitions that included North Shore Senior High School seniors James Tamez and Jacob Tierina for advancing to and competing at the 2025 Texas Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference. James Tamez earned first place in the Personal Finance objective test; Jacob Tierina placed fourth in the client service role play.
Galena Park High School junior Yuvia Herrera was recognized for advancing to the sale round at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Market Steer Show and for selling her steer, receiving $8,500 as recorded on the meeting record. Alma Villegas, a Galena Park High School junior, was recognized for earning a national gold medal in the 2024–25 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for artwork titled "Saddle Up."
Several elementary students were recognized for placing in the top 10% at the Texas Elementary Art Meet and for selection to the Texas Music Educators Association all‑state performing groups. The board also recognized 24 second graders districtwide who scored in the 90th percentile or higher on the quantitative section of the Cognitive Abilities Test, placing them in the top 2% nationwide; students and their schools were read aloud during the recognitions portion of the meeting.
Board members and district leaders applauded the students and invited principals, teachers and program directors to join the honorees on stage.
