The Galena Park Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday approved multiple personnel contract recommendations for the 2025–26 school year, renewed district property and windstorm/terrorism insurance for June 1, 2025–June 2026 and recorded results from the May 3 trustee election.
Trustees voted through a sequence of personnel motions after reconvening in open session at 6 p.m. A motion to approve the employment of contractual personnel was made by Trustee Noe Esparza and seconded by Trustee Adrian Stevens; the motion carried 7 to 0. Trustees next approved the Chapter 21 List 1 (probationary and term contract recommendations) on a motion by Trustee Adrian Stevens, seconded by Trustee Jose Jimenez; that motion carried 7 to 0. The Chapter 21 List 2 (term contract recommendations) was moved by Trustee Amanda Arabia, seconded by Trustee Adrian Stevens; the board recorded the motion as carried 4 to 0 with 3 abstentions.
The board approved two non‑Chapter 21 lists. Trustee Jose Jimenez moved approval of Non‑Chapter 21 List 1 (probationary and term contract recommendations), seconded by Trustee Amanda Arabia; the motion carried 7 to 0. Trustee Amanda Arabia moved approval of Non‑Chapter 21 List 2 (term contract recommendations), seconded by Trustee Noe Esparza; that motion carried 6 to 0 with 1 abstention.
During the meeting the board also completed the official canvass of the May 3, 2025 trustee election. The board reported the precinct returns presented to the trustees and declared Linda Clark Sherrard the winner for Position 3 (5,02 votes recorded in the transcript) and Ramon Garza the winner for Position 4 (548 votes), with Wanda Heath Johnson receiving 300 votes. The transcript records the board declaring Mr. Garza the plurality winner and noting the canvas was completed in an open, posted meeting.
Trustees approved renewal of the district's property and windstorm/terrorism insurance for the period of June 1, 2025, through June 2026 on a motion by President Linda Clark Sherrard, seconded by Trustee Amanda Arabia. Informational reports presented to the board included Early Head Start meeting minutes and a self‑assessment and action plan; Early Head Start fund 205 expenditure summary; tax collection report for March 2025; 2016 and 2024 bond program financial reports as of March 31, 2025; and a quarterly investment report for Dec. 1, 2024–Feb. 28, 2025.
