Bastrop ISD bond projects: new elementary openings, middle school additions and high school work on track

District construction staff reported progress on bond-funded projects: Ableton Elementary is on track for a mid-July occupancy, Mina Elementary concrete pours occurred in overnight shifts, playground upgrades are underway at five elementaries, and major additions to middle and high schools continue on schedule.
Lee Grama Berry, the district’s director of construction and planning, told trustees on May 13 that the district’s bond projects across campuses are progressing and provided dates and scope items for major sites.
Ableton Elementary: Grama Berry said the project is targeting a July 15–17 certificate of occupancy window and that furniture deliveries are scheduled for mid-July. Roofing and HVAC work were complete and commissioning of mechanical units was underway.
Mina Elementary: The contractor completed a first-phase demolition and poured concrete during overnight shifts to meet temperature and finishing constraints; Grama Berry said crews completed a pour at 1 a.m. on a recent Saturday and planned another early-morning pour to accommodate curing conditions.
Playgrounds and accessibility: Five elementary campuses (Cedar Creek, Bluebonnet, Lost Pines, Emile [sic], and Red Rock) are receiving new or refurbished playgrounds with pour-in-place rubber surfacing, improved ADA access and shade structures, with work expected to complete in mid-August.
Middle and high school work: Additions at Bastrop and Cedar Creek middle schools have completed steel erection and CMU walls; athletic field work for those sites was beginning the week of the meeting with winter 2025 openings planned for new additions. Bastrop High School received a site permit and site work was scheduled to begin within weeks; Cedar Creek High School’s structural steel and skybridge connections were in place and interior framing continued.
Other projects: Gateway renovations (security vestibule, expanded nurse station and food service area) were in design development for fall 2025, and a new police and operations facility was progressing with site work and utility installation; the district expects to occupy that facility in March 2026.
Trustees asked routine schedule and lifecycle questions; one trustee asked about the expected lifespan of pour-in-place rubber surfacing and staff replied approximately 15 years.
