The Public Safety Committee approved a resolution to standardize patient-care equipment such as gurneys (cots) and stair chairs across the county's ambulances to ensure interchangeability, improve training consistency and simplify maintenance, Emergency Services staff said.
Bonnie Peters explained that current differences in equipment brands prevent moving a piece of equipment from one ambulance to another because manufacturers' locking mechanisms differ. "The gurneys have locking mechanisms in the back of the AML to secure them in place, which is required by code for the AML to," Peters said, noting brand A equipment will not fit brand B locks. Standardizing equipment, she said, reduces downtime when ambulance vehicles rotate for mechanical repairs and supports consistent training and upkeep contracts.
Committee members carried the resolution by voice vote; the transcript records the motion as carried without a named roll-call tally.
