Dearborn board compiles 2024—6 goals list including bullying prevention, literacy, discipline and fiscal transparency

President Mozamb presented a consolidated set of proposed Board of Education goals covering 2024—6 during the April 14 meeting, grouping trustees' submissions into categories including bullying prevention, community engagement, literacy, student discipline, fiscal transparency and board conduct.

"I combined all of...the goals into two buckets that I felt those are the categories," President Mozamb said while inviting trustees to suggest changes. Trustees who submitted or were named with specific goals included Trustee Berry (bullying prevention and literacy), Trustee D'Ambrosio (community engagement), Trustee Zarr (literacy), Trustee Petrikoff (student discipline), Trustee Watts (positive school climate and board conduct) and Trustee O'Jehmi (fiscal responsibility and transparency), according to the presentation.

The presentation limited trustees to three goals each and asked trustees to request access to the shared document to make edits. Mozamb said the administration will place the consolidated goals in the board brief and that the goals will be standing items going forward so trustees can track progress. "We will have those as standing items on the board briefs and the administration will have access to those," Mozamb said.

Trustees discussed particulars the group asked to see in support of fiscal-transparency goals, including dashboards with academic and assessment data (for example, WIDA and other measures) and operational data. The policy committee was noted as the likely place to begin reviewing governance and conduct guidelines cited by trustees who asked for a review of the school board governance code of conduct and bylaws.

Next steps: trustees asked to review the consolidated document; the president said she will approve access requests and the board will consider the goals as ongoing items for board briefs and future discussions.
