KCAA staff explained the funds are intended to supplement mainstream funding for households that either do not qualify for other programs or whose needs exceed available mainstream funds. The county representative said with the additional funds KCAA anticipates assisting approximately 35 households, providing an average payment of $300 per household.
The motion was moved by Commissioner McLeod and seconded by Commissioner Oliver King. After a brief clarification from staff about how the funds would be used alongside existing programs, the committee approved the appropriation by voice vote.
Details: the additional donation is strictly to the Walk for Warmth special project fund for FY2025. Eligibility for assistance is limited to households at or below 250% of the federal poverty level as determined by KCAA, per the meeting summary.
