Avon Grove School District administrators on Tuesday reviewed final reports from six strategic action teams and outlined accomplishments to carry into the 2025–26 school year.
The district’s “Profile of a Future-Ready Avon Grove Graduate” team reported progress on community engagement and classroom alignment. Doctor Harvey, presenting on behalf of the action-team captains, said the group identified community liaisons that the district approved as part of a legislative agenda and previewed changes to secondary report-card comments to emphasize competencies over generic phrases. “They are chomping at the bit to get to work,” Doctor Harvey said, attributing the quote to the community liaisons’ enthusiasm.
The Envoys for Equity team reported three principal efforts: new “welcoming schools” language to be added to student handbooks, mentoring and onboarding improvements in each building, and an expansion of free athletic physicals. The district said it has doubled capacity for free physicals to 40 students for the coming summer and school year. The team also continued a “name initiative” to record students’ preferred pronunciations during kindergarten screenings so teachers can learn names correctly.
The Future of Learning team announced continued rollout of the district’s flex professional-learning offerings, a new “choose your own professional learning” course for educators, revisions to the educator induction program, and selection of several teachers to attend a national “Innovative School Summit.” Team leaders said they are working to embed technology and the district’s profile competencies in the curriculum review cycle.
On student supports, the Connected, Accepted, Valued team said it refreshed suicide-risk and threat-assessment procedures, continued community-in-schools support at the high school (year three) and AGI (year two), and renewed the district’s mental-health services agreement with New London Counseling; administrators noted a parent’s comment that in-school access to New London counseling had been “invaluable.”
The Systems Improvement team reported operational work including a move toward more electronic financial processing (Vanco RevTrack), online vendor bidding and an integrated accounts-payable system. Staff said a vendor-onboarding campaign is complete and that the district planned to transmit its first electronic payment files in the near term.
Workforce Development updates included the Avon Grove Aspiring Leadership Academy (A Gala), a leadership-development program that enrolled nine participants this year who will continue in summer professional learning, a recruitment video for prospective employees, and targeted outreach to student teachers who live locally.
Administrators and board members asked clarifying questions about implementation and costs. Board members asked for follow‑up on the budgetary impact of admitting students free to home athletic events and urged that teachers be involved in any expansion of grading models so that added documentation does not create untenable workloads.
The district said the action-team captains supplied content for the presentation and that several items—such as revised secondary report-card comments and curriculum-embedded competencies—would be visible to parents and the community in the fall.
