Macomb Township approves $73,915 restroom remodel and $306,000 aquatics slide replacement

The Macomb Township Board of Trustees on Wednesday unanimously approved two Parks and Recreation capital projects: a $73,915 contract to remodel Phase 1 restrooms at Macomb Corners Park and a $306,000 sole-source replacement of the water slide in the rec center aquatics area.
Parks and Recreation Director (Mr.) DeCarlo presented both items. The restroom remodel recommendation was for Windstar Construction based on five bids ranging from $73,915 to about $188,000; the board approved the $73,915 low bid. DeCarlo said work is planned to start in July to avoid overlap with baseball and soccer seasons and estimated a four- to six-week outage for the restrooms; Porta Johns will be provided and some events will be shifted between park phases to reduce disruption. Trustee Pappas moved the restroom contract approval, supported by Trustee Oliver; the motion passed unanimously.
For the aquatics area, staff recommended a sole-source contract with Splashtacular to replace the existing slide, with a total cost of $306,000. DeCarlo said the township saved money by reusing original engineering drawings from the slide’s initial installation in February 2004. Clerk Posey moved the water slide replacement, supported by Trustee Lucido; the motion passed unanimously.
Both projects are budgeted. Staff indicated construction timing aims to limit interference with peak summer programming; the restroom remodel will use temporary sanitation facilities while work is underway.
