Student representatives report spring events, athletics and upcoming graduations

Student representatives from James M. Bennett, Mardela, Parkside and Wicomico high schools told the board about spring activities, athletics, arts events and upcoming graduation dates.
James M. Bennett representative Dana Tyler described Earth Week activities, prom and Grand March events, teacher-appreciation week, SGA elections and multiple athletic and arts accomplishments; she said Bennett graduation is scheduled for May 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Center and noted more than 300 students at the school are taking roughly 600 AP exams.
Mardela representative Evelyn Reeder recapped mental-health awareness week, career day, spirit week events, band and choir performances and senior activities, and noted upcoming senior events including prom, senior social, and graduation dates referenced in her remarks.
Parkside representative Julia Gore highlighted athletic championships and records, the all-county musical, prom events (grand march at UMES, dance at UMES student center), CTE participation in the World Food Prize youth institute, community service and arts concerts. Gore also thanked board members and staff as this was her final meeting as student representative.
Wicomico High School representative Ramon Wazwan announced the school’s Teacher of the Year (Mrs. Cone Matthews), honor society inductions, mental-health barbecue, dual-enrollment resources, PBIS incentives, campus cleanups, senior events and the spring blood drive. He noted graduation practice and final senior events scheduled for May.
Student reports were informational and focused on end-of-year celebrations, program achievements and upcoming ceremonies; no board action was taken on the reports.
