The council reported they were in the design phase for a five-foot-wide sidewalk connecting the north side of town, along the east side of the highway, into the existing sidewalks near Second North and First West. Amanda said about 87% of the project funding would come from state and recreational funds, with the town responsible for a smaller local match.
Council also discussed a separate, larger bridge rehabilitation project described as preserving one of the few remaining wooden road bridges in the state. A preliminary cost figure was read into the record and grant support was described. Council members said the state’s transportation standards affected final design and cost, and they were working with an engineer to adapt plans and control local costs.
Council members emphasized the goal of creating a safer crossing for children and pedestrians and said they will continue to pursue state grants and work with engineers to ensure the project remains affordable to the town.
