Jake and Amanda told the council the state reviewer complimented Mayfield’s system; Amanda said a single gasket issue and a small seep at a lower tank were noted and will be repaired. Jake said town staff have cleared woody vegetation from spring sources and documented the work with photos for the division.
Council members discussed a proposed aquifer-recharge plan that would run excess spring overflow back into the town well. Amanda described the concept: running excess water into the well “would dilute it, so it makes the water cleaner,” reduce the need for treatment and return about half of the water put in. Amanda said the draft calculations suggested large potential volumes — “about 2,000,000 gallons a month” cited as an approximate figure for excess flow available to recharge.
Councilmembers asked staff to follow up with details, including pipe length and cost to connect the lowest tank to recharge piping, and to confirm regulatory approvals and engineering requirements for recharge and nitrate treatment.
