The Huntington Planning and Zoning Commission voted at its May 2025 meeting to approve an ordinance amending Title IX zoning and subdivision regulations to permit mobile homes in existing mobile home parks and to adopt a revised zoning clearance form that includes a checkbox to record county building-permit status.
Commissioners said the ordinance language follows standards the commission has discussed in recent months and that the change will be forwarded to the City Council for review at its next meeting. The commission also approved adding a checkbox on the zoning clearance form so staff can verify whether a county building permit has been obtained before further approvals proceed.
Commission members noted the zoning clearance form is intended to collect key information—site address, park name, setbacks and signatures—before a mobile home installation moves forward. Commissioners said including the building-permit checkbox will help ensure the county-level permitting step occurs and prevent incomplete submittals from advancing in the process.
Both motions were made and seconded during the meeting and carried with the ayes. The ordinance will be placed on the City Council agenda for consideration; the zoning clearance form revision will be used by staff to track required permits going forward.
Commission members also discussed continuing a review of Title IX (zoning and subdivision regulations) at future meetings and suggested bringing additional related ordinances (for example, nuisance, animal control, or property maintenance provisions) for review in upcoming agendas.
