Gunnison Valley Library board to recruit replacement for departing member; new employee Aura introduced; room use with city under review

The Gunnison Valley Library Board discussed board membership turnover, staffing and a facilities question raised by a board member.

Tom Stafford confirmed Deborah is likely to attend her last meeting in September and the board will need to recruit a replacement; the board currently has seven members and requires five for a quorum. Board members said they should begin suggesting candidates and contact Carolyn Chiles with names. Stafford and others discussed whether anyone from the book club or the new Mayfield member had been contacted about serving; members noted a prior list of prospective names had been shared at an earlier meeting.

The board also introduced a new employee, Aura. Board members reported Aura is “working out well” and that Angela had been assigned additional duties; trustees said Aura is helping cover that workload.

Members raised a facilities question about a downstairs room the board has historically used. Karen Donaldson said she had not heard back from Stella about whether city council action could affect the room’s availability; the transcript records that no definitive reply had been received and that the board would await further notice from city officials. Trustees noted the mural and existing uses of the space and said it would be difficult to repurpose without community discussion.

No formal votes were taken on recruitment or the facilities question at the meeting; board members agreed to continue outreach and to track replies from city staff.
