Mayfield council reviews tentative FY2026 budget; final vote delayed until after closed session

Council members reviewed the proposed tentative budget for fiscal year 2026 at the May 14 meeting and postponed formal adoption until after a scheduled closed session.

Town Clerk Amanda presented the tentative general fund figure of $337,627 and described line-item exhibits. She said the draft includes a roughly 3% across-the-board inflation adjustment, salary increases to bring the clerk and public-work pay closer to the 25th percentile on Utah transparency data, and matching increases for council and mayor stipends.

Amanda said the budget showed a small shortfall of about $5,700 that would need to be addressed. She also noted changes in utility-fund projections from impact and connection fees tied to recent or anticipated building in a new phase of the estates.

Councilmembers asked several technical questions about a depreciation allowance appearing in the budget printout and whether depreciation should be recorded in the general fund or only in the utility fund; Amanda said she would follow up with the town’s accounting firm and staff for clarification.

The town discussed road work priorities, chip-seal scheduling and possible park ADA improvements pending grant availability. Council also reviewed recent changes to animal licensing fees (unsexed fee $10; unspayed/unneutered $15) and a proposal to adjust resident/nonresident rates for facility rentals.

Because the agenda included a planned closed session for matters listed in the published notice, the council deferred final approval of the tentative budget until after that session and said a public hearing will be scheduled in June before the final budget is adopted.
