Committee unanimously advances bill requiring notification of sewage and industrial discharges

Senate Bill 276, which requires specified entities to notify Nevada’s Division of Environmental Protection when there is a discharge of sewage, industrial waste or other unauthorized material into the waters of the state, advanced unanimously from the Assembly Committee on Natural Resources.

Becky Peratt, Legislative Counsel Bureau policy analyst, summarized the bill to the committee, saying, “Senate bill 276 establishes provisions requiring certain entities to notify Nevada's division of environmental protection of incidents resulting in the discharge of sewage, industrial waste, or any other unauthorized discharge into the waters of the state and other related provisions.” The measure was introduced in the Senate by Senator Hansen, Peratt said.

Assembly member DeLonge moved to pass SB276, with Assembly member Karis providing the second. Chair Anderson called for discussion; none was recorded on the transcript excerpt. The committee voted in favor, Chair Anderson announced, “Motion's passed unanimously,” and assigned a floor statement to Assembly member DeLonge.

The measure would create a statutory notification requirement; the committee record in this work session did not include an amendment or a roll-call tally beyond the chair’s statement that the motion passed unanimously. The bill now moves forward for further consideration in the legislative process.
