Council heard a progress update on the city-branding RFP (responses due May 30; finalist interviews proposed for June 17, award July 17) and a capital-improvement update on the senior center (roofing complete; interior framing and utilities underway).
City staff on May 15 briefed the council on two operational items: progress on a request-for-proposals (RFP) to hire a community-brand strategy consultant, and a construction update on the Leander Senior Center.
Branding RFP Assistant to the city manager Sariasak said the RFP for a community brand strategy is open through May 30 and staff expects questions and proposals before that date. Staff proposed finalist interviews at the June 17 council meeting and an award on July 17. "That's the date to award the contract," Sariasak said. The RFP requires firms to provide examples of prior work, and staff will provide council scoring materials and proposals for review.
Senior center construction CIP project manager Alvestro reported that the senior center roof installation is complete and exterior waterproofing and interior framing are underway. Windows and masonry veneer have been delivered, interior mechanical and electrical work is in progress, and ceiling and wood‑slat finishes are being installed. Photographs shared with council showed ongoing exterior and interior work; Alvestro said the project continues on schedule.
Why it matters: the branding exercise will establish a citywide marketing and identity strategy and the senior center is a major civic facility. Both items involve procurement and capital planning that will return for council action as needed.
Next steps: staff will return with finalist materials for the branding RFP and continue regular construction updates for the senior center.
