Two members of the public addressed the board during the request-to-address period. Dominique Mays, a Peoria Flex Academy student, said she had been behind on credits and credited staff at Peoria Flex Academy with helping her complete coursework and graduate on May 18. She specifically thanked Mr. Selman and staff for their support.
Charlene Smith, a parent, told the board she had an ongoing dispute involving a district employee (identified in her remarks as a school staff member). Smith said the district previously agreed in writing on April 4 that the employee would have no contact with her child, but she alleged the agreement was violated on April 31 and again this week. She said she asked the district to remove the employee from Cactus High School for the remainder of the year and that the district declined; Smith said she plans to file for a restraining order in court. Superintendent Sanarelli responded that district staff (Mr. Savoy and Ms. Sam) were aware of the situation and the district would provide information back to the board.
Board members asked administration to follow up and provide the board with information regarding the case.
