Cactus High School robotics team honored after qualifying for world championships

The Peoria Unified Governing Board recognized Cactus High School’s robotics team, the Cobra Commanders, and their mentors for winning the Northern Arizona Regional and qualifying for the FIRST Robotics World Championship in St. Louis.
Miss Ery (staff) introduced the team and praised students and mentors. Coach Adam Shroyer and 15 students—identified at the meeting by name, including team captain Curtis Sapp and electrical lead/driver Cody Young—described the season and what they learned. "The main takeaway ... is the skill of learning how to work with people in a collaborative environment," team captain Curtis Sapp said. Team members described long hours of design, build and testing; students said the competition helped them see the real-world purpose of robotics and engineering.
Presenters noted this was the first time in 16 years Cactus High qualified for the world championship. The district and board praised mentors and highlighted fundraising efforts, including donations and a team GoFundMe campaign that helped cover travel costs.
