Peoria Unified previews new district website; public launch set for June 1

Peoria Unified’s communications team demonstrated a redesigned district website built with Blackboard School Wires and scheduled to go live publicly on June 1. The board saw a preview of the district home page, school pages and features the team said are designed to improve access for parents, staff and prospective employees.
The presentation highlighted a large front-page rotator, prominent enrollment and calendar links, an interactive school-boundary tool, improved budget and governing-board pages and responsive design for smartphones and tablets. Presenters said the site will allow schools to expire announcements automatically so stale content is removed and will host district transparency documents (budgets and board packets) clearly and accessibly.
Staff said the district site will roll out first on June 1; some pilot schools will launch then and all 42 school sites are expected on the new platform by January 2017. The communications team named Blackboard School Wires as the vendor and credited PR and IMT staff with content migration and training. Board members asked about calendar integration and export/subscribe options, and staff said calendar items can be shared between district and school calendars and exported for personal use.
The board praised the design and responsiveness of the site and the shorter URL PeoriaUnified.org; staff said the older peoriausd.k12.az.us address will redirect to the new site at launch.
