Wayne County board approves routine contracts, budget amendments and program proposals; sets tentative June meeting date

The Wayne County Board of Education approved a package of routine items on May 15, including consent items, the low bid for a Conwyck Elementary cafeteria oven, budget amendments, overnight student trips and two vendor proposals for occupational and physical therapy services.
The actions are part of regular end-of-year business as the district prepares final payroll and budget amendments. Board members also tentatively scheduled the June meeting to take place the week of June 24–26 to allow time for final payroll processing and county commission coordination.
Board business opened with the consent agenda, which passed on a motion by Mister Martin with a second from Miss Van Fleet. The board approved a second reading of policy 2.702 (personnel/policy revisions) on a motion by Mister Martin, seconded by Mister Eaton. Overnight trips for Collinwood Middle School, Cottonwood High School and Wayne County High School were approved on a motion by Mister Staggs with a second by Mister Terman.
On a competitive bid for a new oven at Conwyck Elementary, the board accepted the low bid from Singer H & R for $40,415.84; Miss Sinclair recommended that award. The vote was taken by roll call with all seven districts recorded as "Yes." The board also approved budget amendment items (including a pre-K amendment and transportation adjustments) and approved two vendor proposals for occupational therapy and physical therapy services after staff described rates as generally in line with prior cycles.
Board members noted the district will finalize amendments after June payroll and the board’s fiscal committee will meet to develop the proposed budget for next year. Student representatives from Frank Hughes, Collinwood, Wayne County High and the virtual school were recognized at the meeting; graduation dates were announced for mid-May and the virtual school on May 20.
