Board approves $519,640 camera upgrade contract for schools

The Carter County Board of Education approved a contract to upgrade campus cameras, accepting the lowest bid for telecommunication services at $519,640.
Mark Rivas, a district staff member who presented the item, said the district had used grant funding to purchase safety equipment and that two bids returned: one from a telecommunication services firm for $519,640 and a Johnson Controls bid for $675,220. “My recommendation, we go with low (bid) with the telecommunication services,” Rivas said.
Board members moved and seconded the recommendation; a roll-call vote recorded unanimity.
Rivas told the board the vendor plans to begin installations as soon as possible and will try to complete as much work as possible over the summer and into the next school year.
The board recorded the contract award and then proceeded to other business.
