Carter County schools honor CTE state champions and 41 middle-college graduates

The Carter County Board of Education opened its meeting by recognizing Career and Technical Education (CTE) award winners and the district’s third graduating class from the Middle College program.
School staff said the district recorded 12 state champions, 19 FFA state degrees and 21 associate degrees this year among CTE students. Staff also noted student teams and individuals who qualified for national competitions in Anaheim, Dallas, Atlanta and Nashville.
Drew Gray, a staff member who spoke at the meeting, described the Middle College program: “In the senior year, they graduate with both their high school diploma and their associate’s degree, which is really awesome. It's totally free.” Gray said the program is funded by a combination of state and federal grants and that 41 students graduated this cycle.
Board members and staff named students from multiple high schools during the recognition. Staff also acknowledged the Elizabethan Women Civic Club for sponsoring a Carter County student’s attendance at a real-estate-related program for the first time this year.
Board Chair and administrators invited families to remain for the meeting or to leave with the honorees after the recognition.
The board then moved on to routine business, including adoption of the agenda and the consent agenda.
