Senate honors health workers for National Hospital Week; highlights wildfire response

The California State Senate on the floor adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution 71 (SCR 71) recognizing National Hospital Week and thanking hospital staff across the state for their service, including emergency response during recent wildfires.
Senator Allen presented SCR 71 and noted that California hospitals handle millions of emergency visits and hundreds of thousands of births annually. He praised hospital workers’ roles during disasters and in the pandemic. “When disasters strike ... it was thanks to the devoted Californians working in our hospitals that our community did not face greater loss of life,” Allen said.
Senator Perez highlighted Huntington Hospital’s wildfire response — including staff who lost homes while continuing to care for patients and staff who staffed evacuation centers — and urged appreciation for hospital workers who served during the Eaton and Palisades fires.
Senator Allen introduced Dr. Lori Morgan, president and CEO of Huntington Hospital, to the floor in recognition of the hospital’s response work; Dr. Morgan was acknowledged by the Senate during the session.
Senator Chobot and others spoke in support of the resolution, noting challenges such as primary‑care shortages in some regions and urging continued state support for hospital capacity and workforce. The resolution received unanimous consent on the floor and was adopted by a roll call recorded as Ayes 33, Noes 0.
SCR 71 is a ceremonial recognition honoring hospital workers and does not itself change funding or policy.
