Summit County Council on May 14 approved an extension allowing the Summit County Lands and Natural Resources Department to use funds from its 2023 RAP (Recreation, Arts and Parks) recreation award through Dec. 31, 2025.
The council took up the request after Rachel Bridal, appearing on behalf of Jess Kirby in the Lands and Natural Resources Department, told the council the department had completed some purchases under the award — including GPS devices and transportation for work at the 910 Ranch — but delayed other management-plan work until baseline documentation for the ranch was finished and reviewed. Bridal said the department completed a weed-management plan and vegetation transects through the grant, but a baseline-contractor delay put the timeline behind schedule and prompted the extension request so remaining work could be completed during the summer and documented by the end of the year.
The extension was moved by Councilmember Megan and seconded by Councilmember Roger; the motion passed with council unanimous assent on the record. The council explicitly set the extended deadline as Dec. 31, 2025.
The Lands and Natural Resources representative said the extension will allow the department to finish rangeland, wildlife and recreation planning tied to the 910 Ranch only after the baseline data are in place and reviewed.
The extension does not change the grant amount; it only adjusts the deadline for use of the 2023 RAP recreation award funds.
