Commission approves Local DWI and detox grant agreements to fund county treatment services

Sandoval County commissioners approved two DFA grant agreements on May 14 that county staff said will fund local programs to reduce driving while intoxicated, alcoholism and alcohol abuse.
Sandy Ramos, committee services manager, said the first agreement is the annual allocation and an additional competitive award for the Local DWI (LDWI) program; the county received a $190,000 competitive grant this year, Ramos said. The second item was a fixed annual detox grant program for eligible counties; Ramos said the detox award provides $150,000 per year and funds treatment counselors and related services. "Most of the funding for this detox grant is in house," Ramos said. "We contract out only for an acupuncturist to provide acu-detox services."
Commissioners moved and seconded both agreements and approved them by voice vote; the record shows the commissioners present voted yes.
Ending: County staff said grant funds will be applied to counselor salaries, benefits and contracted acu-detox services and that they will return with program reporting as required by the DFA agreements.
