Commission approves application for County Road 13 walking and bike path near Cuba to ease school traffic

Commissioner Catherine Brook described safety and traffic problems on County Road 13, which she said backs up onto State Road 197 during student drop-off and pickup near Piedmont High School. "Some of these kids get to school late," Brook said, and the proposed path would create a safer route that ties into an existing Bureau of Land Management trail and reduces traffic backup.
The resolution approved county staff to commit the standard 5 percent matching funds required by the NMDOT TTPF program. Commissioners moved and seconded the resolution and approved it by voice vote; the motion carried with the commissioners present voting in the affirmative.
Ending: County staff said they will proceed with the grant application and return to the commission with project design and budget details if the application is successful.
