One commissioner said a $100 million building program would likely require a tax increase and asked whether the county is prepared to make that decision; county leadership said more planning and funding work is required before any tax or bond proposal would be presented.
Several commissioners asked that the school board provide live-streaming access to its meetings and, until that service is available, consider meeting at the county chamber so more residents can view proceedings. The county executive said the RFQ includes a timeline and that short-term needs could be addressed separately from the long-term study.
There was no county vote on the RFQ at the commission meeting; the RFQ will go before the school board, which the county executive said is scheduled to consider it at its next meeting.
