The Norwood Trails Advisory Committee on May 13 set a plan for summer outreach, including staffing a table at the Norwood Farmers Market, supporting school literacy and STEM nights and leading a community walk on May 24 hosted by Progress Norwood.
Committee members said volunteers are needed to staff the committee's table at the farmers market, which committee members said will run in June and beyond; member Joe Greeley has committed to some weeks and the group asked others to fill gaps. The meeting record said the market will be on the common and that organizers expected vendors to be set up early; the committee discussed alternating volunteers and skip‑week coverage to maintain a presence.
School and community events
Committee members described two upcoming school events where the trails committee typically participates: a Willit School literacy event scheduled for an evening time slot (discussed as 5:30–7 p.m. during the meeting) and a Prescott School STEM night likely in early June. Brian Pomatter and other members said such events are useful to show families local trails and to encourage trail use by younger children.
The committee also confirmed an organized walk scheduled for May 24, hosted by Progress Norwood, that will begin at the high‑school kiosk and follow a loop including Shaddock Park, Mount Norwood and the Willett. The walk was planned as an easy social loop; committee members discussed alternate routes for families with strollers and the need for some weed‑whacking along parts of the route in advance.
Parks and openings
Members noted a Tyler J. Lawrence Memorial Park grand opening planned for an upcoming Friday at the Norwood Airport site and the Bird Park centennial celebration on June 7 with public programming and food trucks. The committee encouraged members to attend and to publicize the events to trail users.
Health and safety
Members raised seasonal concerns such as ticks and encouraged volunteers working events with children to remind families about tick checks and appropriate attire. The group discussed volunteer supplies (gas for weed‑whackers, string trimmer line) and the need to coordinate equipment prior to community events.
Administrative close
At the end of the meeting members moved to adjourn. Lee Leach moved to adjourn the meeting; no second was required under the committee's practice, and the chair closed the meeting.
