Chino Valley Fire officials cite quick response to park brush fire; RFP for general contractor closing

Chino Valley Fire Chief Dave Williams told the Chino Hills City Council on May 13 that responders contained a vegetation fire in Chino Hills State Park the previous day and credited coordination among regional agencies for preventing structure threats.
Chief Williams said the incident and other spring fires underscore the year-round wildfire risk and the importance of continued partnerships between the city and the fire district. He described the department as “all risk,” meaning it maintains capabilities to respond to medical, wildfire and other incidents.
Williams also briefed the council that the fire district’s general-contractor request for proposals is currently open and scheduled to close on May 27. He said staff expect to bring a recommendation back to the Chino Valley Fire District board at its June regular meeting for selection of a contractor.
The chief thanked the district’s board of directors, the Fire Foundation and staff for support on programs such as drone reconnaissance and cardiac-care initiatives, which he said add capabilities for incident assessment and community protection.
Council members and the mayor praised the quick response to the recent brush fire and asked the chief to continue coordinating public outreach before and during fire season.
