Englewood schedules May 19 study session on South Broadway revitalization; staff extends discussion time

Englewood City staff set a May 19 study session to discuss the South Broadway revitalization framework, scheduling the meeting to start at 6 p.m. to allow additional time for public input and staff briefing.

City Manager Sean Lewis told meeting participants the South Broadway item would be the main focus of the May 19 study session and staff adjusted the start time after a lengthy water-and-sewer discussion at the prior council meeting. Mayor Pro Tem Joe Anderson and other managers agreed the single-item study session should allow roughly an hour to an hour and a half for presentation and discussion.

The city reported stronger-than-brief public interest at the earlier briefing: the sign-up sheet filled to about the third page and speakers represented a mixture of supporters and people expressing concerns. Staff described the earlier public meeting as lasting about two hours and said there were no “big surprises” in the issues raised; council members nevertheless recommended additional time to accommodate questions and discussion.

City staff also left a placeholder for a South Broadway redevelopment plan item on the June 2 agenda in case additional study is needed, while keeping the May 19 study session as the primary forum for the framework discussion.

What happens next: staff will present the framework and accept public comment at the May 19 study session; no formal council vote on the framework was recorded in this May 14 mayor-manager meeting. The city clerk was asked to notify interested parties of the adjusted start time.
