Ocean Township Schools to Post Prior-Year HIB Self‑Assessment After State Release

The Township of Ocean School District will post last year’s harassment, intimidation and bullying (HIB) self‑assessment on the district website after the State Department of Education made those scores public, Superintendent Weldon said during the board of education meeting.

Weldon said each school’s safety-and‑climate committee completed the self‑assessment last June and the district submitted the results to the Department of Education; the state released the reports publicly last week. “This is information that we did talk about last school year,” Weldon said, and the district will post the previously submitted grades on its website the next day.

Weldon emphasized the timeline: the HIB grades discussed are a self‑assessment from the end of the prior school year, not a rating of the current school year. She said the district follows the Department of Education process requiring annual school self‑assessments and public reporting. The district did not discuss changes to disciplinary policy or to how it investigates individual HIB incidents at the meeting.

Board President McCarthy opened the item and called for questions; none were raised before the board moved on to other business.

The posting will make the district’s self‑rated HIB results available to parents and the public for review, alongside other district reports and notices on the district website.
