Crossville sees interest in spec building; Avogen sale closing next week; Deerfield Road rumble strips installed

The Crossville Chamber of Commerce and city staff reported progress on local economic-development projects and traffic-calming measures at the council meeting.
Ethan Hadley, president and CEO of the Crossville Chamber of Commerce, told the council that the pre-construction meeting for the planned spec building drew several construction companies and that at least one new prospect has already committed to visit the site. He said the chamber hopes construction will begin this summer and that the interest generated by the project is attracting additional prospects to the city.
The city manager reported that the city will close on the sale of the Avogen property next week and reminded the council that the spec building bid date is May 30 at 2:00 p.m., when bids will be opened. The city manager also reported that rumble strips and a new crosswalk have been installed on Deerfield Road to slow traffic and improve trail access.
The chamber also noted Leadership Cumberland is proceeding with visits to local industries and said the program has its largest class yet. Council members did not take votes on these informational reports during the meeting; items were presented as manager and chamber updates.
