Commissioners discuss advisory-board reappointments and options for an aging-board extension

Staff presented multiple appointment recommendations. The Advisory Board on Aging recommended reappointment of Jonathan Wilner and Gigi Rasti; commissioners signaled support. The board also discussed a request to extend the term of Vibica Talley, a long-serving Advisory Board on Aging member. Commissioners debated options including a one-year extension, creating an ex officio role that would allow participation without voting, or allowing a new appointee to fill the regular seat. Commissioners asked staff to research the eligibility criteria for the Senior Tar Heel Legislature delegate role and whether an ex officio arrangement would be appropriate; they directed staff to return with options and to bring the appointment back on a future consent or business agenda.
On the Affordable Housing Advisory Board, commissioners agreed to reappoint Sarah Adams, Lynn Nelson and Holly Meshko for second terms and discussed filling an at-large vacancy with a candidate who previously served on the county's partnership to serve. For the ABC Board, staff relayed the board's recommendation to appoint Dr. Timothy Feeney to fill a term expiring in June; some commissioners noted a qualified alternative applicant, Dr. Melinda Pankratz, and discussed gender balance and board composition but ultimately did not dispute the ABC Board's recommendation.
Commissioners used a combination of "thumbs up" confirmations and requests for follow-up research rather than final votes on every appointment during the work session; staff said appointments and any contingencies would return for formal action at a future business meeting or on the May 29 appointment list.
