Pioneer Community Energy updates Placerville council on programs, cites lower rates than PG&E

Paige Garcia, program manager for Pioneer Community Energy, briefed the Placerville council during the public-comment period on May 13 about customer programs and cost-savings.
Garcia described Pioneer as the locally owned not-for-profit electricity provider serving El Dorado and Placer counties and several incorporated cities including Placerville. She said Pioneer has saved customers about $108 million since 2018 and planned an additional $31 million in savings for 2025; she added that Pioneer’s 2025 rates average about 10% lower than PG&E’s for residents and businesses in Pioneer’s service area.
Garcia highlighted several customer programs: retail discounts on LED and energy-efficient products, a zero-down/no-credit-check program to install solar and storage for qualifying customers, a $75 rebate for customers who tune up their air conditioning, and incentives for reducing energy use when the grid is stressed. She also encouraged residents to attend Pioneer field days for bill assistance and left informational flyers for the city.
No council action was required; council members said they would share flyers on city social media.
