Clemson Extension seeks county support to expand 4-H capacity with an assistant position

Why it matters: Extension reported 3,800 York County youth participated in 4-H activities during the past year and said 20% of all 4-H participants in South Carolina are from York County. Proposal and cost: The FY2026 ask totals $58,736: $31,523 to continue cost-sharing for the established 4-H agent and $23,413 (50% cost share) for a new 4-H program assistant; an additional $3,800 would support office operations. Boyles said the assistant would expand capacity, allow wider countywide programming and help integrate school and community partners.
Council reaction: Councilmembers thanked Extension for its long service and noted 4-H is a valuable youth-development program. The council will consider the cost-share request as part of the county budget.
