Kenai Beautification Commission approves 2024 annual report, forwards 2025 work plan to City Council

May 13, 2025 — The Kenai Beautification Commission approved its 2024 annual report at the commission's regular meeting and voted to recommend that Kenai City Council adopt the commission's work plan goals for 2025.

The commission, chaired by Chair Dossett, moved through its agenda items after confirming a quorum. Commissioners approved the written annual report of completed 2024 work-plan goals by unanimous consent and then voted, again by unanimous consent, to send a recommendation to City Council that the council approve the commission's 2025 work-plan goals.

The actions formally recorded at the meeting were procedural approvals: adoption of the commission's minutes from prior meetings, approval of the 2024 annual report, and the transmittal of the 2025 goals to City Council for action. Council member Daniel attended the meeting and reported that the city's budget process is underway and that departments should work with staff to request funding needed for fiscal year beginning July 1.

Commission discussion leading to the recommendation focused on the commission's priorities for 2025, including the annual parks-and-garden tour, a winter tour that commissioners called a success, and a list of proposed beautification projects (murals, banners and static displays, and fountain improvements). Commissioners requested that Parks and Recreation staff notify the commission when budget lines are available for items such as new static displays.
