Council adopts Butte County 2025 Community Wildfire Protection Plan

Jason Fenton of CAL FIRE presented the 2025 Butte County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) to the Paradise Town Council and recommended adoption. The plan, produced with grant funding and extensive stakeholder input, consolidates the county unit fire plan and CWPP into a single, 450-page document that identifies hazardous-fuels priorities, community risk assessments, homeowner resources and an inventory of past, present and planned fuel-reduction projects.
Fenton described the CWPP as a collaborative document prepared with input from multiple incorporated and unincorporated jurisdictions, state and federal partners and regional stakeholders. He said the plan is intended to recommend—but not mandate—measures to reduce wildfire risk, to support grant applications and to inform local project prioritization. The document is subject to state review and will be forwarded to the Board of Forestry after local signatories adopt it. Fenton said the plan was updated comprehensively and will be accompanied by a story map for public access after state approval.
Council voted to adopt Resolution 2025-30 authorizing the mayor to sign the 2025 CWPP on behalf of the Town of Paradise. The council noted the plan includes local projects and countywide efforts and that wildfire risk does not respect jurisdictional boundaries.
No public speaker objected during the hearing; the council approved the resolution by roll-call vote.
