Resident raises health concerns after unlicensed herbicide spraying at Country Club Estates

During the public comment period of the Salt Lake County Council meeting on May 13, a resident identified as Dina Long described pesticide or herbicide spraying in the Country Club Estates community and raised concerns about public health, safety and regulatory enforcement.

Long said she observed spraying along cracks in roads in the 320‑unit Country Club Estates development and that those conducting the spraying were not wearing personal protective equipment or following labeling and manufacturer directions, as she understood those requirements. She said she tried to contact the state agricultural division that regulates pesticide and herbicide application but experienced disconnected phone lines and incorrect contact information on complaint forms.

Council members and staff directed the resident to county resources; one staff member offered to hand her a note with the county health department’s correct phone number and to follow up. A council member suggested the county health department would be the appropriate agency to address the inquiry.

The resident identified the sprayer as the homeowners association (HOA). Staff said the county would provide the health department contact information and that the county would follow up to ensure residents had a working phone number for filing complaints and to check with appropriate regulatory authorities.

No action or formal motion was recorded on the matter during the meeting; staff committed to providing the resident with the county health department number and to follow up on her complaint.
