Rockwall ISD trustees canvass May 3 election, declare winners; administer oaths and elect officers

The Rockwall Independent School District Board of Trustees at a special session canvassed the May 3, 2025, board of trustees general election, adopted an order declaring the results, administered oaths to the winning candidates and elected board officers.
Administration told trustees the board, as the governing body of the political subdivision, was required to canvass results received from county election administrators pursuant to Chapter 67 of the Texas Education Code and board policy BBBB (legal). The administration recommended approving the official canvass returns provided by the county election administrators and adopting an order declaring the results.
Trustees approved the canvass by motion of Trustee Jim White and a second from Trustee Grant DuBois. The motion carried unanimously (7-0). The board read and adopted an order declaring the election results and incorporated precinct-by-precinct returns prepared by the Rockwall County and Kaufman County election departments.
The order lists the vote totals reported by the counties for the May 3, 2025, trustees election. For Place 4, Stan Britton ran unopposed and received 6,852 votes. For Place 5, the reported totals were: Steve Albers, 4,242; Audrius Barnes, 1,061; and Katie Tanner, 2,040. The board declared Stan Britton elected to Place 4 and Steve Albers elected to Place 5, each to serve three-year terms ending May 2028.
Judge Rayko administered the oath of office to Stan Britton (Place 4) and Steve Albers (Place 5) following the canvass.
Trustees then conducted officer elections. Amy Hilton was nominated and approved to continue as board president (motion and second recorded), Sherry Packer was nominated and approved as vice president, and Stan Britton was nominated and approved as board secretary. Each nomination passed unanimously, with recorded tallies of 7-0.
Outgoing Trustee Jim White was recognized by the board for his service; White spoke briefly, thanking fellow trustees and district staff. "I appreciate it. And it means a lot," Trustee Jim White said during the recognition.
The meeting record notes that written notice of the special session was posted on the Rockwall ISD administration building bulletin board and on the district website at least 72 hours before the meeting, and that the canvass and order were conducted in accordance with applicable law.
