Brownsburg detectives report multiple investigations and arrests, including daycare sexual‑abuse case

Chief Joe Grimes summarized four investigations during the May 13 meeting. He said detectives responded to a stabbing that occurred in the 300 block of South School Street; the victim required surgery and detectives obtained search warrants and interviews. The investigation led to an arrest on charges that Grimes described as aggravated battery and battery with a deadly weapon; detectives continue to process evidence and seek prosecution.
Grimes also described an April 11 incident he characterized as an attempted carjacking. Officers arrested a suspect they said was known to the victim; charges include robbery with injury, felony battery and misdemeanor interference with the reporting of a crime, Grimes said.
On a separate matter, Brownsburg Narcotics Unit investigators executed a traffic stop tied to a multi‑jurisdictional theft ring and seized burglary tools and equipment theft kits. Grimes said officers also obtained a warrant for a suspect's phone and that the investigation involves multiple victims across jurisdictions.
The most serious case Grimes described concerns a former local daycare employee. Grimes said the suspect, identified as Gabriel Garner, 22, of Avon, was arrested on May 6 on 43 felony counts arising from an April investigation. The chief listed counts including child molestation, child exploitation and possession of child sexual‑abuse material. "This is a tragic and unforgivable crime," Grimes said. He added the department has contacted victims' families, is providing victim‑advocate resources and will continue evidence collection and additional search warrants as the case develops.
All investigations described remain active; Grimes said detectives are coordinating with other agencies where needed. No additional formal actions were taken at the meeting regarding these cases.
