The Brownsburg Police Department announced May oral interviews for 19 officer candidates and reported two recent graduates of its field training program.
Chief of Police Joe Grimes told the Brownsburg Police Commission on May 13 that the department will conduct a full day of oral interviews for a previously authorized expedited recruitment. "The first interview will be at 08:30, with the last interview at 05:05 and hoped completion by 05:30PM," Grimes said, and he asked that a member of the commission serve on the interview board. Commissioner Bellanti volunteered to serve.
The recruitment follows an expedited hiring plan the commission previously approved. Grimes said the department invited 19 candidates to the oral-interview day and expects a single, consolidated interview process followed by an executive-session review of candidate materials and rankings. He said the goal is to present a conditional offer to the commission in June.
Grimes also reported that two officers — Lucio Argueta and Joseph Majeski — completed the department's field training program in April and have been released to solo patrol. "They are still probationary," Grimes said, "and supervisors will oversee them and conduct quarterly evaluations until they complete probationary status." The chief said the department will continue quarterly performance reviews for probationary officers.
The recruitment and FTO updates come as the department monitors equipment and personnel costs and prepares budget proposals for 2026 that may include adjustments to sworn longevity pay and related staffing investments.
Commissioners asked about scheduling and availability for interviews; Grimes clarified an executive-session review of candidate materials will follow the oral-interview day and precede any conditional offers.
The commission took no separate formal vote on hires during the meeting; the recruitment timeline and interview board participation were staff-directed actions.
