Leander City Council unanimously approves canvass of May 3 election, declares winners for places 1, 3 and 5

The Leander City Council on May 13 formally canvassed the results of the May 3, 2025 general election and declared Stephen Chang elected to Council Place 1, David McDonough elected to Council Place 3 and Andrew Nadeem elected to Council Place 5. The council approved the canvass by unanimous vote.
City Secretary Crabtree read the official returns for the three contested seats, listing vote totals for each candidate. For Council Place 1, Natomi Blair received 1,690 votes and Stephen Chang received 1,747. For Council Place 3, David McDonough received 1,831 votes and Annette Sponsello received 1,370. For Council Place 5, Andrew Nadeem received 1,749 votes and Donnie Mayhem received 1,663.
The presiding official asked for a motion to approve the canvass; an unidentified council member moved, another unidentified council member seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. City Secretary Crabtree said the declared winners will be sworn in at the regular council meeting on May 15, 2025, at 7 p.m.
The action completed the statutory canvass step required after the election returns were certified and announced during the meeting. No additional discussion or objections to the returns were recorded in the meeting transcript.
The council adjourned at 3:02 p.m.
