Under Texas Election Code Section 67.004, the council met to canvass the returns and adopted Resolution R-25-541 to certify the election results. Council members did not receive a staff presentation on the item during the meeting, and the council opened and closed a public hearing with no members of the public speaking.
Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Richardson moved to approve Resolution R-25-541, and Council Member Graves seconded. The council then conducted a roll-call vote; all seven members present voted in favor of the canvass, recorded as a 7-0 approval of the resolution. The council noted the voters had denied the bond proposition and indicated it would move on to other city priorities before adjourning.
The approved canvass formally records the returns of the May 3 election. Because the bond measure failed, the city does not have voter authorization to issue the proposed general obligation bonds for the recreation-center expansion. The council took no further action on the bond authorization at the meeting.
