Outgoing Councilman Josh Craft honored; new mayor and council members sworn in

Councilman Josh Craft was honored by colleagues with remarks and a personal memento at a special Amarillo City Council session May 13, and the council swore in a new mayor and three council members.
Mayor Cole Stanley and other council members praised Craft’s service during a short ceremony. Craft offered a brief farewell to colleagues and attendees, saying, "It's been a journey filled with challenges, decisions that carried, and moments of quiet triumphs ... I first took office. I made a commitment to lead with integrity, to listen before speaking, and to put Emerald families first in every decision that I made. Looking back, I'm proud of the work we've accomplished together as a council." Colleagues responded with expressions of appreciation for his advice and service.
The council then administered oaths of office. Municipal Judge Laura Hamilton led the oaths. Cole Stanley repeated the oath and was sworn in as mayor. Tim Reed was sworn in as council member, Place 1; Don Tips was sworn in as council member, Place 2; and Les Simpson was sworn in as council member, Place 4. The oath language recited on the record included the pledge to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and the laws of the United States and of this state."
Incoming remarks: Tim Reed offered brief remarks after his swearing-in, thanking family and supporters and saying, "I gotta learn everything first. I do wanna thank God for putting me in this position, but also for the support that I got for my wife and my family." Newly sworn members expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and said they looked forward to getting to work on city business.
Ceremonial details: The mayor presented a Place 1 memento to outgoing Councilman Craft. The municipal judge administered the oaths at the dais; the council then invited attendees to photos and informal conversation following the ceremony. The session adjourned after the ceremonial business and incoming remarks.
