Elections office relocates; state board appointments and July swearing-in set

The board also reviewed appointments to the State Board of Elections and related scheduling: Karen Brinson Bell, the outgoing executive director, was recognized for six years of service; Sam Hayes has been named the new executive director; and new state board members include Francis DeLuca, Robert Roushaut, Stacy Eggers, Jeff Carmen and Shivano (Shavon) Duffy. The board noted continuity on the state board was helpful to counties.
Key dates discussed for county- and state-level onboarding include: - County board appointments by the State Board of Elections are expected the week of June 24. - The swearing-in (the chair called it the "lie by law date") is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22 at noon at the courthouse; the session will be a public meeting. - An orientation for new county board members is planned for July 1 (9 a.m.–4 p.m.), and a required conference is scheduled for July 27–29; the board reserved spaces for five members and plans to rent transportation as needed.
Director Duncan thanked staff for recent work and noted staff anniversaries (Devon five years; Nate one year). The board also said it will staff voter-registration and photo ID services at several county commissioner town halls this summer (dates discussed and later clarified): the county commissioners plan town halls on June 26, July 24 and Aug. 7 (locations to be determined); elections staff will attend to provide voter registration and photo ID assistance at those events.
No formal votes were taken on facilities or scheduling at the May 13 meeting; staff will continue to coordinate meeting-space timelines and onboarding logistics with county and state offices.
